What Motivated Me to Study Nutrition

What motivated me to study nutrition?

I am fortunate and grateful to have grown up where fresh healthy, nutritious, whole, foods were a part of our household and daily living. The kitchen was a place of nourishment and nurture.

My Mamusia (Mam) passed on to me the gift of good health — whole, fresh, organic, and nutritious food. We grew up eating healthy food at every meal and to this day, food is the most important topic of conversation with my Mam. Having survived the Second World War in Poland, her life experience made her appreciate the value of food and this has carried forward in her life today where food is essential, precious, and almost sacred. Growing up in a family of 5 children, we were fed, and then told to go outside to play in nature until sunset. I remember eating and playing with so much fondness!

I was taught at a young age that health is one of the most valuable things in life, and to this day I am a firm believer in what my Mam instilled in her children growing up. It reminds me of what Herophilus, the Greek physician quoted:

“When health is absent, wisdom cannot reveal itself, art cannot manifest, strength cannot fight, wealth becomes useless, and intelligence cannot be applied.”

Having grown up with allergies from a very young age made me aware of what I was eating, smelling, tasting, and how the food I put in my mouth or touched made me feel. This in turn has helped me develop a strong awareness of food and mindfulness. Food is an extraordinary gift of nature and it is there for us to enjoy, as it’s one of life’s greatest pleasures. Food is essential for life as it offers healing, nourishment, comfort, and most important — it brings people together.

My passion for nutrition and active living started at a very young age, and has continued through my adult life. I’ve always enjoyed eating food and trying new recipes, yet keeping it all very simple. My love for being outside, staying active through movement and spending time in nature has made me feel healthy, strong and energized.

As a woman shy of 60 and a mom to 11 year old twin boys, my health now as I age is more important to me than ever. In addition to my desire for health span and longevity both physically, emotionally and mentally, I feel motivated to live feeling strong and energetic. Taking an active role in my own health and that of my family and to live and age mindfully is what matters to me.

I feel great joy when I am able to provide my family, friends, and clients with the tools and information that will motivate and inspire them to live the best and healthiest life possible, through nutrition, active living and energetic balance.
