Mindful Eating
Since I was small, I have always been mindful of the food I ate. It was my way of survival. I really had no choice.
Having grown up with allergies from a very young age made me aware of what I was eating, smelling, tasting, and how the food I put in my mouth or touched made me feel. This in turn has helped me develop a strong awareness of food and mindfulness. Food is an extraordinary gift of nature and it is there for us to enjoy, as it’s one of life’s greatest pleasures. Food is essential for life as it offers healing, nourishment, growth, comfort, and most important — it brings people together.
Mindful eating is the practice of paying full attention to every aspect of your eating experience; food choices, environment, and the physical & mental, olfactory, visual sensations before, during, and after a meal. The focus is to engage these senses to deepen our experience in the present moment. Engaging our senses will help us understand how food affects our health, and how it makes us feel. Does it make us feel tired, lethargic, grumpy, agitated, nauseous, or energetic?
Eating with intention, gratitude and mindfulness, will go a long way toward keeping you healthy, energetic, alert, fit and focused throughout the day.
Smell. Taste, Enjoy. Be Mindful of the Food You Eat!
