Water- Staying Hydrated

Water- Staying Hydrated

It should come as no surprise that water is essential for survival. The adult body is 55-60% water. Many studies have shown that the amount of water consumed depends on specific factors like age, body size, climate, physical activity, & individual metabolism. Daily recommendations range from 2.5-3 litres for adult men, 1.5-2 litres for adult women.

By the age of 80, our bodies have 15% less water than when we were 20, making us more vulnerable to dehydration, and at risk for dizziness, fainting and confusion.

Water is essential for kidney function, the lungs, the heart, digestion, the brain, muscle joints, energy, & skin.

Keeping hydrated is necessary to move nutrients & waste through the body. Hydration controls body temperature, keeps blood pressure normal, cushions key organs like the brain, spinal cord, abdominal organs and lubricates joints.

Not consuming enough water can cause problems such as:
1) thickening in blood
2) low blood pressure
3) constipation,
4) fatigue

Be conscious of how much you drink, and make water your daily drink of choice.
